Tamas Feher’s biography



Hungarian-British Tamás Fehér is a highly qualified internationally recognized, weightlifting coach, with 35 years’ experience within the sport. He has demonstrated a significant ability to develop and encourage both male and female weightlifters to the international level in many countries all over the world.

He started his athletic career at age of 13 and his last international competition was at age of 41. He competed at world level for both Hungary and Uruguay.

Fehér started his coach’s career at the age of 20 in Budapest, in one of the best Weightlifting clubs in Hungary. Later he moved to re-create a traditional Hungarian weightlifting club, which became one of the best in the nation. He also worked as assistant coach of the Hungarian National Junior Squad.

He started his international coaching in Honduras in 1989 where he was sent by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) as the Head Coach of their National Male Team. His athletes won several gold medals in the Central American Games.

After this assignment he moved to El Salvador as the Head Coach to the Male and Female National Squad (2+2 years). With few training resources and little organisational support, he was able to manage his team to be one of the best in Pan American area. Producing medals at the Pan American Games and University World Championships, they also reached respectable positions in World Championships and the Sydney Olympics.

In Norway he successfully trained and managed the National Male and Female Team for 2 years, including double European Champion and World class super heavy star, Stian Grimseth (430 kg total).

In 2005 Tamás Fehér was voted by the Hungarian weightlifting community as the President of the Hungarian Weightlifting Federation (HWF). He served his sport as a top leader in his homeland for 3 years.

Between 2008 and 2014 Tamás has been working as the Head Coach of British Weight Lifting (Great Britain Male and Female Nation Squad) preparing the British male and female Team to several world and European championships including the succesful London 2012 Olympic Games. His 6 years lead coaching in the UK brought a new weightlifting culture to Britain.

Between 1990 and 2013 he has taught numerous international Weightlifting, Strength & Conditioning couching courses and lately CrossFit seminars (in 22 countries in English and in Spanish). Some of them by the request of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity, International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), European Weightlifting Federation (EWF), Poliquin Institute and Eleiko, Weightlifting USA, Sheffield United Football Club, England Rugby Union, UK Sport TASS, etc.

Tamás Fehér received his Bachelor and then his Masters degree in Sport Sciences with emphasis of coaching Olympic Weightlifting from the internationally-known University of Physical Education in Budapest, Hungary.

He has published several texts on Weightlifting. One of which, a 324-page comprehensive manual for coaches (Tamás Fehér’s Olympic Weightlifting) is used for coaching education in several countries. The English version was sold in 5 continents. Coach Fehér continues to produce new books, DVDs, E-Books, articles in different languages. He is the creator of the complex preparation method called Feher Performance System © which is widely and successfully used in numerous countries worldwide.

Tamás also speaks English, Spanish and Hungarian fluently.
